In 2014, wine production in France grew 12.08%, reaching 4.61 billion litres. However, a slight drop in export volume and domestic consumption was recorded. Market statistics have shown a 6 year consecutive decline in average annual wine consumption per capita in France.

Due to the weakening local demand and competition in export (especially within EU), a consitent concentration phenomena towards relatively competitive varieties can be obvious witnessed, which is largely decided by the domestic and export demand.

Fierce price fluctuations is observed in 2014, whereas an overall growth trend can be captured. It is worth mentioning that the Euro/USD exchange rate has dropped from 1.38 in April to 1.24 in Nov 2014, which explains the fall back of the VINEX price index.
The bulk export dropped by 9.01% due to the relative strong position of Euro in mid 2014, which was the time period when most wine trading happened. By contrast, the exchange rate was 1.26 in the last quarter in 2014 compared to 1.36 in 2013.
